About Copan Ruins

Considered one of the great Mayan enclaves, the Honduran site tells the story of its dynasties in impressive stelae and more than 2,500 hieroglyphs. Copán was the capital of an important Mayan kingdom between the 5th century and the 9th century.

Copán Ruinas is located in western Honduras, in the Department of Copán, just 14 kilometers from the El Florido border with Guatemala. For many years, Copán Ruinas has been famous for its magnificent Mayan ruins, declared by UNESCO Archaeological Heritage of Humanity in 1980. Today, Copán Ruinas is considered the Paris of the Mayan world in Central America.
