About LAGUNA DE LOS MICOS

In Honduras, monkeys are called “monkeys.” Hence the name of the lagoon, since many white-faced and howler monkeys live in its surroundings. Laguna de los Micos is one of the largest in Honduras, undoubtedly the largest lagoon in Atlantida, and is an integral part of the Jeannette Kawas National Park (Punta Sal). It is located in the western area of the Tela Bay, and access is relatively easy following the beach path that leads from the back of the Indura Golf and Beach Resort to the Garifuna Village of Miami.

Los Micos Lagoon is one of the most biodiverse areas in Central America and is one of the most appropriate sites for bird watching! Experts have counted over feathered 250 species (migratory and resident) in addition to crocodiles and monkeys. In fact, the lagoon is named after the monkeys (micos) living around the lagoon.
